What brands or types of chaff do you use? My local merchants are very restrictive as to what they stock so i would be interested what people use. I tried to get a different chaff to my usual from the advice of a friend and couldn't get it anywhere! What do you use, and is there a reason why?

Use Hi-Fi Lite/Happy Hoof/Applechaff.
 
Just now I'm feeding Spillers happy hoof, but when Chex is not so fat he's usually fed on horsehage mollichaff extra, or Elliots molassage.
 
Ive never seen chaff here so I chop my own using hay and straw-hard bloody work! Mairi.

Yes,it is,and it's mostly fibre anyway.
It's just that there seems to be a common misconception that it's totally molasses free.

Well I have some Hi-Fi Lite that B will have once weaned. ATM they have Dodson & Horrell Alfalfa (feed store had run out of Dengie Alfa-A). Before this they had Dengie Alfa-A Lite. When I stop feeding oil, then I will most likely feed Dengie Alfa-A Oil - it's TOTALLY unmolassed!!!
 
i changed to dengie hifi original after many years of useing molliechaf as i noticed that they were putting more and more mollassis in with it .......i just think it cant be v.good for the horses put too much weight on,
 
One has happy hoof, the other is on D&H (I think) Safe and sound.

Happy hoof cos she's a fatty, but needs corn for energy as well, so it's easy for me to adjust feed depending on workload.

Safe and sound for the other fatty as that's all the 'hard feed' she gets, and it's got a few more 'bits' (ie. nuggety things) in it than happy hoof.
 
I use AlfaA which is an important constituent of my horses' diets rather than just something to bulk it out with. Don't use normal chaff as I resent paying inflated prices for what is basically chopped straw with molasses!
 
I have been using alpha A oil for almost two months now as a big part of my horse's diet. It is great stuff, he has a shiny coat and is so much calmer than last winter when he had alot more cereal based mix with only a little happy chaff to bulk out his feed.
 
Hi Fi Lite as a hay replacer (fed alongside hay/haylege)
Apple chaff for proper dinner although i've still not started feeding yet.
