Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with chalk based stables.

I'm about to convert an old cow shed to stables and would prefer not to have to concrete the whole barn. I've heard that if done correctly a chalk floor can be fantastic but I've yet to see one first hand or hear from anyone who has one.

Please help.

Yes mine are 20 years old this year and will outlast the stables.

They are brilliant all the moisture drains away, and they are very easy on the horses legs. The only problem you have is with wear and tear but they are easy to patch over just some damp chalk pressed down. If you have door/ floor scrapers or box walkers then a rubber mat at the front will sort that.

Mine are laid over a base of limestone scalpings. they were laid dry then soaked and allowed to set hard.
