Chamois lined saddlecloth- can it go in the washing machine??

Cost a fortune and I'm a bit scared!

Hmm, that's what I thought. I might have to hand wash it

Maybe a gentle (warm water) hand wash instead and use a natural bar soap not detergent or washing powders as these remove the oils from the leather.
The bar soap usually has tallowate in it (tallow-beef fat) which will help retain oils within the chamois.
Rinse in warm clean water and let it dry naturally.

The first sticky bum jods I had (20 years ago) had a chamois leather seat. I used to wash them by hand in washing suds for wool - leaving them to soak for hours if dirty. When rinsed, wring out and then dry. Once dry, you have to run the chamiois against itself to get it soft again.

Thanks Honey08. That's a good point, I've had chamois full seated jodhs too and just put them in the machine.... not sure I want to risk it though

I recommend you try Leather Therepy Leather Laundry Solution - I used it on a very expensive white suede I bought cheap in ebay and it come up beautifully.

Yes, they're very expensive but great. Hence me being very scared to put it in the machine!
