Are you talking about the Wintec/Bates saddles? It depends how high the withers are, a TB at our yards has a wintec that fits and he has quite a high wither, but I guess all horses are different.
Not in my opinion - for a high withered horse you need a decent cut back combined with a dropped panel. If you are on a budget look at thorowgood hi wither saddle, if money is not a problem then get your saddle fitter to have one made (£800ish)
Hope this helps
Depends which saddles you're talking about. The wow has changeable head plates and has been a fabulous saddle for my boy who has very, very high withers.
It's also rather more adjustable than most other saddles since everything about it can be altered should the need arise.
I briefly rode in a wintec while I was waiting for a fitting date for the wow and it didnt really work on my horse, it constantly dropped too low on his withers and in the end I just left horsey until his wow was sorted.
Baron is high withered and I use a 17.5 wintec with the medium gullet fitted and it fits him well. He had no topline when I got him either which is why I bought it, I didnt want to pay out for a leather one as I knew he would change shape. It really depends on the horse though, maybe you could borrow one and try it? Saddlers will often allow a try before you buy service.
yip ,jay has no topline really & as he has only been back in work 4 months he is going to fill out etc & i dont want to spend lots on a good leather one
I had a 17.1hh tb with withers more like a camel hump!
Neadless to say, you could NEVER ride him bare back!!!
My saddler was brilliant and after trying hundreds of saddles that just sat on his withers making him sore, we got an Albion K2 Jumping saddle, that was brilliant. It fitted a treat, well worth investing in one of those.
Now Ive been converted to Bates, I have young horses and these are brilliant for when they grown and change shape.
Hope this helps! A prolite pad is also worth a go.
