I am waiting for my vet to call me back but thought I would canvas opinions here too whilst I wait.

I noticed last night that my mare, who has been barefoot 3 years now's coronary band drops very slightly from the straight line at the front of her foot (ie if you draw a line from heel to front it is straight all the way up and then just as it curves round to the front of her foot it is maybe 1mm lower than the straight line).

She's sound and her usual bouncy self but I am sat her thinking about all the dreadful things which could cause that.

What could it be a sign of please? other than the dreaded L word!!

She doesn't have raised pulses or warm feet but after noticing that I did spend the whole evening questioning if she took one or two "footy" steps on the gravel last night but that could be me well over-thinking the whole thing :/

I have quite a lot of photos of her feet on my PC at home so when I get home tonight I am going to look back at recent ones and see if I can identify when it dipped :/

ETA she did a check ligament on that leg about 4 months ago - could something like that cause a change in the structure of the hoof?!

Afaik, the dipping of the coronet at the front of the hoof can be a sign of the laminae stretching, or an improper angle/position of the pedal bone. But if your horse has had an issue in that leg I would imagine that may affect the shape of the hoof. Personally if there's no sign of soreness I wouldn't panic, but just keep an eye.

Photos needed for this one. Also, the first person you should call is whoever trims the feet, familiarity with the history of the horse, it's feet and movement is needed here.
