Changing a horses name...

Lots of people say it is unlucky to change a horse's name. I guess it depends how superstitious you are!
We have changed a couple over the years but only a bit, ie same sound.
What is your mare called?

If your not keen on the name then I would, doesn't take them long to learn a new name, after all its the voice/tone they get used to, rather than what you actually say.

Plus I think it also adds a personal touch to your new horse, havnig a name that you have given them.

When do we get to see your new ned? *jumps around in excitement* have you posted a pic yet?

. Not been a problem yet

.

None of us liked the names our neds came with; we didn't think they suited them either. Sooooo, just started adding new name to old name when calling in the field/whenever needed to use name, then dropped the first bit (the old name). Simples

I changed one of my horses names once as she was called Mary and i hated it! Didn't think it was a horsey name at all.

We always changed their names as they have to be dickensian.... but every horse we've bought in the last 5 years has gone wrong..... currently looking for ANOTHER pair... on a charities budget.... oh the joys

I don't like changing them, but all the horses at my yard (riding school side) ALL have theirs changed! At the moment any new ones get called something to do with food and drink.... so we have Horlicks, Pancake, Pudding, Treacle, Onion, Hovis, Marmalade, Marmite... think you get the picture!!

I would always try to keep with what they had, BUT, I hate horses being named human names, like Gary or Brian!! So yes, I guess I would change if I REALLY had to!!

Noooooooooooo dont do it!! I changed JJ's name when i got her and had 2 years bad luck

Also have known quite a few other people who have done that same and had bad luck!
I wouldnt risk it again!

Ditto Kenzo, when do we get too see new neddie??

Yeh I would change it, but i guess it depends how superstitious you are... as someone on here once said "name change is not a reason for kissing spines or navicular or bust tendons that you are taught at vet school"

I've changed all my neds' names... except the foals because I named them to begin with.
PF started out as Charlie Big Potato, then she was Starling at home, in Argentina she became Papa Frita because no one could say Charrrleeee Beeg Potahto or Starrleeeng and now she's going back to Charlie Big Potato because that's what she's registered as... *sigh*

Know how you feel... my pony's called Connie but he's a gelding =/ why would you give a gelding a girl's name?! haha but never really got round to changing it and i would always forget that i had!
