Can a owner retain the name of a horse that has been registered and raced under that name to give a new horse the same name?

If they can does that mean the orginial horse needs a new name to be registered under?

Also, does anyone know the process of how this would be done and the timeframe that it could take?

Thanks all you knowledgeable peeps x

I hightly doubt it where racehorses are concerned, the stud books are so carefully maintained horses with the same name would compliacate things. I think its why you get xxx 54 etc

Thanks, this is sounding good.

I have a new 4 year old that I hope to get to the yard soon and the owner suddenly said that they wanted to retain the name for a new colt they're getting.

I thought 'perfect, now I'm gonna have to wait for ages and get a new passport ect - let alone come up with a new name for him (that would have been another post!)'

So fingers crossed the owner will find out it's not possible and I can get my new boy home! Yay
