Hi, just wondering if there's a trick to this..
i've been able to unscrew one side of the gullet but the other will not come off at all-no matter how much force i use
it's the gullet they put in at the factory and it's really stuck:/ any suggestions?

The bolts should unscrew quite easily (no force required), it's normally getting the new gullet in that requires much swearing!!

that's the thing-the first was so easy to get out but the second feels like it's welded on!
i'm gonna ask the guys at the yard to have a go tomorrow

Can't you take it back to where you brought it from as TBH it sound faulty........maybe it was cross threaded or something.

i think that;d be the best plan but it was bought years ago from equestrianclearance and i'm not sure if i still have the reciept:s
i will have another go tomorrow and take it to a local saddlers as it's a huge treck to get to ec

Make sure you are unscrewing it the right way and not making it tighter! Its a very easy mistake to make........

Hi,

I used to use a wintec. Be really careful when you put the new head plate in. If its not screwed in tightly the screws work loose and allows movement in the head plate which will allow movement and cause you horse a lot of pain. I learnt the hard way and won't touch them...spinal concussion and a horse that was terrified of saddles after only 3 weeks. Took a master saddler to spot the problem, and no amount of nice numnah underneath could correct her attitude.

I changed my gullet from a medium to a narrow medium a few months ago during the winter but now need to change it back to a medium as ponio has put on weight again. It only took me about 20 minutes most of the time was me studying the construction of the saddle once I got the gullet out!

The screws did "stick" a tiny bit when I was first unscrewing them but they came out easily. Are you sure you are turning the right way? Remember it's "right tight, left loose".

It was easy to put the new head in and Mariatoo is right about making sure the screws are back in tightly. Mine are still holding fine though.

When they are made they have a tiny spot of locktite glue put on them to stop them coming loose. This is probably what is stopping it coming undone.
Get the biggest phillips screw driver that you can with a long handle and try that. usually the extra traction is enought to break the seal. Careful you dont ruin the thread or you'll never get it out.
When you put in the new screws, you should also use a stop of glue to prevent it from coming loose again. I can;t remember which glue it is, but it does name it on the info thats comes with the saddle or new gullet.
