wwell as title really, - i'm thinking about changing bits, my horse is currently in a happy mouth straight bar snaffle, i just bought a new one as the old one had perished, anyway we've had it about 2 weeks and its already looking worse for wear!! i'm having his teeth done at the end of the month, but i'm thinking if its not anything to do with his teeth then were going to go through alot of bits! He does chomp on the bit alot whilst riding and opens his mouth when a contact is asked for. I've been trying to look for suitable alternatives for a happy mouth but if i'm honest i dont really know that much about bitting horses so any advice greatly recieved. x x

Wrecking his bit and opening his mouth is him telling you he's not comfortable.

Those Happy mouth bits can become quite sharp and rough once they get chewed.

Try him in a shaped, sweet iron with no joint and see what he is like.
