Some advice please!
Do you think it is acceptable that a farrier you have used for the last 6 yrs can't move an appointment forward/fit you in as an emergency?
My horse came back from hunting with a loose shoe on Tuesday and my farrier is not booked until next Friday. I phoned my farrier to ask to bring the appointment forward, so that we wouldn't miss this weekends activities and hunting next week, and more importantly, to prevent any damage to the foot if he does lose this shoe.
What annoys me is that this is not the first time I have been in this situatuion, and have on one occasion not been able to ride the horse for 2 weeks until he could come out. My farrier has had a lot of personal problems since I have known him and I have stuck by him when other clients have got fed up.
However I have phoned 2 other local farriers, who although don't know me from Adam, have both have offered to come and secure this loose shoe within the next few days which solves my short term problem.
Do you think I should 'sack' my current farrier (and if so how!!) and try someone else? I do appreciate that the relationship with your farrier is very important, and although we get on very well, am getting very frustrated at losing precious riding hours due to farrier only able to do things on his terms. What makes it more awkward is that we see him socially too and I feel worse than if I was dumping a boyfriend!!!!!!
