I want to change to another farrier as I'm not happy with the one I have at the moment and the quality of his work. If you in anyway try to question him he can be quite arrogant and come across slightly aggressive, so I've decided I'd like to change to a different farrier. Sounds easy, but all farriers seem to have this unwritten rule amongst them where it almost seems theyre worried about things looking like theyve poached one of their clients! arghhh!!! what do I do!?!

Just go ahead and do it, if his work is shoddy and you are unhappy with both it and his attitude. And explain to your new farrier that you just didn't get on with him full stop and if the new one is a good one he or she will see straight away just looking at your horses feet.

You need to tell the old one that you are changing and thank him for his previous service.
Then when you call up to book a new one you tell them you have formally told your old farrier that you are changing. The thing they worry about is when clients change without telling the old farrier - it then looks like they have poached clients.
