How easy is it?

Currently paying £28 with petplan. Never claimed, never had any medical conditions. Only really hack.

Had quotes from Kbis for £18 and scottish equestrian for £21 which are cheaper but with slightly higher excesses. I only want vet fee cover, nothing else.
I didnt pay any money for him either so want him insured for a minimal amount, say a few hundred? Would this cause problems in the event of a claim. He isnt an easy ride so would be difficult to sell, although technically he is a purebred arab with papers, fully sound, no medical conditions and has done everything in the past (endurance, hunted,pc,western etc) so could be more at market value.

Are there any other insurance companies that would be worth a call? Nfu were very expensive?
Could i ring petplan and haggle it down perhaps?

Thanks

KBIS are a good company & the quote you have been given appears to be very reasonable. You need to check that they don't require a vetting certificate of some kind. It may be due to the low insured value thay won't want one but check all the same.

NFU will be high, there was a mass exodus from them over the last 12 months or so due to excessive premium increases.

It is a bit of hassle changing but will normally result in lower premiums. Just check all the conditions and any exclusions.

I am looking at chanibg from nfu. They have been great for the last 5 yrs but r v. Expensive and keep going up!

I will b looking at KBIS and pet plan for quotes.

I git my TB for free and had him insured for 700 plus all vets fees, tack, liability etc , nfu were around
40 per

Per month. My other horse was advertised for 2000 but I got her for 500 inc tack and rugs. She is pretty much unsellable due to behaviour (and my feelings on who should have her!!), but she us insured for 1.5

Remember u have to deduct ur excess from anything u would get.

I'm with Petplan - always have been and had a LOT of claims. I have my horses insured for the minimum - my last TB was insured for £300. The issue for me isn't how much I get back if I lose them, it's the vets fees cover that's important to me. So you still get £5k of vets fee cover.
Also make sure the horse is in the right insurance group - there's no point in having it insured for competing//dressage if all you are going to do is hack.
Ask them to take off cover for rider injury if you're not bothered about it and just ask for vets fees cover and third party cover only (if you're a BHS gold member you get third party insurance with that anyway so you would only need vets fees.)

Agree I'm with pet plan and had to claim for lots of vet fees due to my boys DJD but although they are slightly more I would not consider changing. They have been fantastic paying out every time and really quickly. They let me know when they have paid my vet bill not once have they argued over anything. Could not fault there service. X
