I've just bought a couple of coloured youngsters with chaps passports, but I really don't like their names and want to change them. They've never been handled so it's not like they know them!
Is this possible? I've heard chaps are funny about name changes but it seems ridiculous that a human can change their name on a passport so surely horses can too!

They would not let me change my mares name and I was registering her for the first time. I sent the forms in with a few names, got a passport back with a different name on it. Phoned them and they said that as I couldn't have any of the names I put down they chose one! Did ask why they couldn't have phone me to see if I had any more names, they don't do that!

I've found CHAPS to be one of the least obliging societies out there.

I think you might be stuck with those names but if the breeder is keeping her prefix on them then I think she'll have to do it as that's how prefixes work, only the holder can do changes (if you haven't changed them from her into your name already) No doubt they will make you pay through the nose for the pleasure.
