could anyone give me any tips on how to actually ask for this?
or how to help get this correct?

we can kind of do this, but after we have she feels like she is dragging a back leg?
it feels horrible, Please help

sounds like you are going disunited as your horse is only changing infront and not behind. Generally the reason for this is that the horse isn't engaged and carry its weight behind. A flying change (which I presume you are talking about!) should come from behind first before changing infront to be correct. if the horse is not carrying its weight behind and working up into the contact then 99 times out of 100 they will change infront first and only if lucky change behind.

How good is your schooling? good guide points are being able to perform collected and medium work in trot and canter in addition to correct basic lateral work (shoulder in leg yield etc). Its this sort of work that encourages the weight to be carried on the hocks and therefore make a correct change easier. And it is also why in pure dressage flying changes are not introduced until advanced medium level where you are also required to perform half pass in trot and canter and walk pirouettes.
