Changing ownership on Passport

I am in the process of buying Chester and I will be transfering the majority of the money for him over tomorrow and the rest on 23rd November.
I am wondering if I should wait until after 23rd November to change the ownership on his passport.
The sellers are husbands family so trust them absolutely that they won't want him back at all, as I have had him on loan for 19 months.

Wait until you've paid outright as technically won't be yours until full price paid.
