Hi,
I've just put a deposit down on a horse. It's a nice looking chap but he's got an almost unpronouncable Dutch name. I'm looking to do some BSJA and BD with him so I'd really like to change his name to something I actually like. He's KWPN registered and his name starts with a Z?!? I'm not sure whether I can change his name and wouldn't know where to start if I could.
All help and advice gratefully received!

if he is bsja registered they will charge you approx £180 to change his name. Z was probably the year he was born.

You don't need to register for competing using his Passport name. many PIO's will allow a name change (for a fee, usually £10 - £20) but the Passport will also show the original name.

This is correct, there is nothing to stop you changing an animal's name. The PIO will have to update the passport and both names will appear on the passport. Under EU legislation it is the unique equine life number that defines the animal, not the name.

so if im reading right you can change a name but only if the horse has not been registered with bsja etc first. that is why i have always had to pay as mine had come in from ireland with sjai points as they were registered in ireland. thats interesting. thanks
