Hello :)

I'm buying a pony that has a passport issued by the Welsh Cob & Pony Society. She's from a trekking company and her name includes this... And it's kind of horrendous unfortunately :S Can I change the pony's name? If so, how?

Id like to know this although Ive been told no, I dislike my boys registered name, I probably dislike his actual name more and even thought there is no rule to say this cant be changed due to superstition and the fact he has always been called this name and knows it we are stuck with it!

Contact the society and see what they say? I spoke to them a while ago over an ownership query and they were very helpful over the phone.

You only need to use the official passported name if you show the pony in WPCS shows or affilliated classes anyway so if you aren't going to show it won't be an issue. For local shows you can call the pony whatever you like!

If the name is a breeders prefix then I wouldnt want to change it personally

I think they should be given credit for their 'work'

If its the latter part of the name that was bad I guess thats more understandable

Doesnt answer your question though - I'd give the society a call, they have always been very helpful to me :)

I have changed two of my ponies names from Terry to Symba and Kodie to Benji!

The first was a registered Haflinger passport and the second was with the Cleaveland Bay society. No problems on either, they just put formally know as and their original name in little letters underneath.
