Channel 4 just won't do as good a job as the Beeb

Sorry, but how can you beat the racing coverage done by the BBC and in particular, Claire Balding for the Grand National? Channel 4 is good, but not that good.

It's such a shame the Beeb have lost all the racing coverage. Worse still of course is the two deaths today, so very, very sad.

The beeb are slowly loosing all of it's great sports coverage. Nit sure how they will show it well with all the ad breaks, I know they will show the race in full , but it will be constant breaks before and after.

I know, I'm so disappointed that my hard earned cash that goes towards a TV licence will not be used to televise the shamble of **** that is the GN.:)

Apart from the all the ads (and John Mc Cririck) I prefer channel 4 race coverage, especially the knowledge of John Francome, and I love it when he actually goes and rides out on certain contenders. Also I find their coverage less syrupy than the Beebs. Yes, Claire Balding is good, but I find her a bit twee at times. I find C4 more informative as well.

I am actually glad CH4 now have the coverage - they do the racing coverage every week so know what they're doing. The BBC only show the crowd-pullers like the Gold Cup and the GN. I think CH4 team have more of a relationship with the trainers, jockeys et al so think it'll be better coverage in general.

Ok so John McCririck (spl?) is a pain in the a*se but, in general I think they're better.

I think the BBC coverage are top heavy John Parrot and his slim friend for one, will miss Claire Balding and Mick Fitzgerald though, Channel 4s coverage of Cheltenham is very good and apart from John McCririck the rest of them are excellent. So I am expecting Channel 4s coverage to be an improvement.

A few years ago I would have been sad that the BBC had finished covering the National but Ch 4 have come on in leaps and bounds, are vastly improved with good commentators/interviewers plus first class paddock info from John Francombe and Ted Walsh at Cheltenham although I do wish they'd pension of the spouting Hairy Gnome, he gets on my wick. I think they'll do it very well but I do hope they bring in a few ex jockeys into the team too as Mick, and the two Richards give a fascinating insight into the whys and wherefores, be a shame if that was lost. Good luck CH 4.

C4, for me, is much BBC racing.

Much more informed coverage, perhaps because we are horsemen we appreciate the in depth bits more than joe public. I taped the national 3 days and fast forwarded most of it as there was so much drivel.

Hopefully Mick and Richard Dunwoody will join C4, leaving Parrott, Pershad who I think is totally irritating and that co-presenter of Parrotts behind.

C4 can dump Big Mac, I put mute on when he starts. I don't follow the flat much, but Willie Carson has forgotten more than most ex jockeys will ever remember and is interesting on the breeding side of racing, so he can join C4 as well.

Both channels need to leave the shots of skimpy dresses and high heels out and concentrate on the horses. I would also like to see the horses allowed to finish and keep walking before the presenter runs up and says to the jockey 'how did that feel'. The answer will always the same, and there are some horses that are obviously wobbly and need the right people round them immediately, not a presenter asking silly questions.

Hmmm yes - perhaps its Claire Balding that I'm going to miss most of all then. I have to say, Channel 4 are very good - apart from the hairy idiot - but I must be either too old, or just a traditionalist as I'm so used to the Beeb.

Oh well - onwards and upwards huh!

Totally agree C4 do a good job and have top class presenters with the exception of the hairy idiot (have never heard anyone say they like him so why do C4 persist with him:confused:) but hope they do not overdo the add breaks.
