Anyone watching? Very interesting. Although I did well up when the man told us about his 3 Horses that were taken from him when he was a little boy :( makes me just want to go and hug and kiss my Horse!

I know, that was sad and I didn't realise that happened. Think I can see where this is going and I think I'm going to get sad :(

I'm touched that some of the soilders had such bonds with their Horses. And the Blue Cross made a booklet for the soilders on how best to look after their Horses.

Thank you for reminding me! Wanted to watch this so I'm +1'ing it and will be watching it at 9 with the OH. Do I need a box of tissues at the ready?

I'm watching it. V interesting.

I did laugh at the choice of Friesians for the "This is the sort of horse that would have pulled the wagons" bit. For the other side perhaps!

Yes am watching it. Sorry didn't realise this thread was here so started another one! Sorry!

But awful, those poor poor horses; and those who fought. My grandfather was in the Royal Flying Corps which was the pre-cursor to the RAF, so he must have seen some awful things.

Just shows the futility of war basically, and the awfulness of it all.

Me too. None of us can ever imagine what that generation of men, women, children and animals went through for such a stupidly pointless war. Met some veterans of it when I was younger. Some amazing men, now sadly gone.

A wonderful program which brings some things into perspective....without these men and horses we would not live in today's civilised society.

Very sad at the end to hear how some of the horses ended up :(

Amazing though how the veterans that appeared in it all lived such long lives - they all lived to be over 100 years old. I find that amazing that they had lived through all they had. I just don't think any of us could ever imagine what they must have seen.
