Was given the forms to join chaps when i recently bought my mare but now local coloured class is BSPA. Can you join both or which one would you recommend or have i got something wrong and being really thick???
You possibly wouldn't need to join BSPA if it's just a local class. If your horse is CHAPS registered already you will need to change her over to your ownership with them.
CHAPS run the HOYS classes and BSPA run the RIHS classes. There tend to be more CHAPS classes further north - although that is changing. It really depends on which qualifiers you want to do. You can do some affiliated classes without being a member, you just don't qualify for anything if you win.
Yes you can join both. You will need to get both passports overstamped and pay for two lots of memberships. Have a look at the websites for both to compare shows as not all areas have equal coveradge. Where we live most shows are CHAPS.
2. More BSPA shows and their champs are closer to me than CHAPS which tends to be further north.
I have done CHAPS classes which you can do but cannot qualify for.
BSPA can be a bit less efficient that CHAPS but are lovely people and so very helpful in answering lots of questions when starting out and really helped me.
