Well i have just read a very interesting post
on another forum regarding comments that a
pony who won a championship class in '05
was not in fact registered with the society, chaps.
i was under the impression that in order to qualify
for their championships you and your animal have
to be registered before hand.??!

this statement had infact come from the animals current owner who stated that to this day it still is not registered.

how can this be? does anybody know anything more on this ?

So was I.You had to have a 'card' stamped at qualifying shows I thought.Must admit shows that I seen (friend has a coloured)they were quite rigid about this.Bit of a shame for people who have joined CHAPS solely to be able to qualify.Could you contact CHAPS themselves and see if they have done away with this rule?

There was an issue in 2005 with riders who rode/hadlers not being registered while competing at the championship (the horses had qualified with different riders/handlers), but this has been resolved.

It'd definately worth writing to CHAPS if you have a query, they'll hopefully want to be tightening things up after the incidents I mentioned above that became very public.

Hmm, you might be right FMM, I'm wracking my brains trying to remember but can't

yes virtual, i think what you mentioned was regarding bspa.

it appears from what i understand, is that you do need a card to be signed at the qualifying show, with a reg number on it?
so how could this animal / owner be able to enter the qualifying class and subsequently win the championship.

i have emailed the admin dept to query this but as yet have had no reply.

i did actually ask on this forum if they knew who's pony/horse this involves
and was quite shocked to be told that it belongs to a person prominent within the society !

i had coloureds myself many years ago before they reached the heights of fashion they seemed to have nowadays, but having decided to buy a very nice tricolour mare last year, this is the first year we would be coming out under saddle.

and seeing as she already has a chaps passport i thought i would try some showing classes with her under chaps rules and join myself.

BUT....having read that very long post regarding this matter
i feel quite disheartened if that is the right way to put it.

i have friends who show with both coloured societies and they always have said that chaps always seem to be the nicest/friendlyest society. no disrespect to the bspa whatsoever. im sure i will find this out for myself.

but what does it say to a prospective new member when a thing like this comes to light after nearly 2 yrs?
and it involves a person in a prominent position!

I'm not sure whether you're talking about a championship at a qualifying show, or at THE championships. If it's a championship at a qualifying show that she won, that's perfectly 'legal' - you don't have to be a member of chaps to enter most of their classes, but you just don't qualify for the final if you win. If it's the other, then it's definately worth talking to chaps about.
