Ok, so I'm now really confused. I wnat to register a horse with CHAPS so I can show him. Thye ahve sent me the forms but he already has a passport so do I send this and pay for overstamping? I also need to send photos with this, will they keep them? To show do I need to register with them to as a member? Also I know I need a qaulifuactoin card and on the form they are asking for a height cert for my horse, I'm quite reluctnat to sned them one as he's about 15hh and growing and I don't want him measured yet as at this gheight I don't know if I should get him measured down in furture for ponies BSJA or leave it (he jumps as a horse currently) is the cert vital?

HELP!

Send the passport for overstamping.
No you won't get the pics back they need them for identication and to do his colour.
You need to register as a showing member to be able to show.
Can't help on the Height Cert though as mine are traditionals so I don't need them measured.

Measuring down is illegal and you can be objected against anyway so its pointless trying to cheat.
Life height certificates dont exist now anyway and re-measurement happens all the time.

I have a coloured cob and I am probably going to join BSPA (if i have got the right initials for british skewbald and piebald association). I have to get a height certificate done as he is a cob and has to be under 15.1 I believe. I have read up on this on the JMB (Joint Measurement Board) website. Horses have to go for 2 measurements. The first measurement a horse has is always an annual one. You also have to have shoes removed for a JMB height cert. My horse is going for his first height cert in a couple of weeks time with my local vet (not all vets can do JMB height certificates), I then believe I have to go for his Life Height Cert a year later and this has to be done by a different vet.

This is all for showing, I am not sure about for BSJA ponies etc.

Life height dont mean life tho as they can be objected to and horses can be randomly remeasured, just keep that in mind.

Dianachi, the life height can only be objected to once and if your horse is objected to you have i think it is 6 weeks to present the horse for remeasurement which means that you have plenty of time to let the horse down, get feet trimmed etc

Er HOYS you can be measured at the ring/show.
As can BSJA ponies.
Letting horses down and trimming feet is really cheating and unfair. Yes obiously some horses get hyped up and its unfair to measure themas they will stand taller.
Yes one objection to life height BUT societies can random choose ponies/horses to re-measure.

your missing m,y point! At the moment with out shoes my boy would be 148 fairly easilly and with shoes at shows they can be measured as 150 on a spot check. HOWEVER I think he is still growing, and I don't want to have him measured till he stops getting any bigger, but don't want to have to have him measured for CHAPS as its more of a fun thing on the side and what I really want him to do is jump (he's registered as a horse now) BUT I also don't want him meseaured as if I decide to sell him I would like him to possibly be able to go to a junior. You hav eto have 3 measurements before life height certs are given anyway and it goes by calender year, so you can have the first and second in december and January if you so wish, then the life cert in the following Jan.

i dont think that letting a horse down and trimming feet are cheating, it doesnt hurt the horse and the removal of shoes is required for a measureing so you should have the feet trimmed at the same time.

I think sedating a horse or dehydrating a horse is cheating but just letting one down is not.

and at HOYS they dont re measure horses on an annual and i think that if youve been objected to already they dont remeasure you then

HOYS USED to measure the winner of the championships (providing they had a life height and not an annual). However they no longer do this.
