I'm not sure if its just me, but everytime i've sent a query to CHAPS re: registration or things like that, their response always seems very curt (bordering rude).... does anyone else feel this way?
I know i'm quite a forthright person myself (but I always make my queries really light and friendly like Hi can you tell me....many thanks) so if I feel this way how must someone more mild mannered feel!! I never get that with any of the other studbooks I use, they are all really friendly and chatty.

YES! I thought that when I wrote them a query, the answer made me feel really small and stupid for asking it in the first place. I was polite in my query would of thought they could be back.

Yes, totally agree, very rude and made me feel very insignificant. Although at least they actually reply

I phoned the BSPA numerous times, emailed them 3 times and faxed them and I still got no reply!!!

Not happy. Well, they've both lost my custom I'm registering mine with the New Forest Society now as First Cross Breds.

Wetherbys were fab when I phoned and emailed them, really lovely and helpful.

So its not just me then! When I was enquiring about changeing owner on a stallion so I could issue covering certs, i ended up getting him overstamped and approved by a different society rather than deal with them they were that rude (imo) i felt like emailing back I WAS ONLY ASKING, lol!
I have got a foal to register and I was following the instructions on the cover cert to contact them re registering my prefix with them (its already with CPR) and they replied I needed to go to the CPR but the way it was written was as if I was stupid or something, I was only following the cover cert directions!
Don't get me started on the BSPA, only dealt with them once and the words NEVER AGAIN spring to mind!

I think SHB(GB) are one of the nicest (pricey! but definitely nicest!) Marion in the office always send you really nice messages and she chats to you (even though she must be upto her eyeballs in work!)
Only contacted NTR once and they were very polite!
The new girl in the office at AES is very pleasant, much better than the old one, she use to frighten me!

I can't imagine you being frightened by anyone HG LOL BUT I agree.......... glad to hear the new lass is much better, agree also find the SHB (GB) always so welcoming and helpfull, no matter how late we leave overstamping before shows they always bend backwards to help get those passports out!

My advice is to anyone that works with the public and is downright rude and unhelpful is if you can't be nice, give it up and remember who is paying your wages!

Definately not you, I have had the same and when I went to get registration forms from their stand at the Royal the women on it was really miserable, as if she didn't want to the there....... Had to deal with Weatherbys and Sports Horses and both were really good, nice and friendly......

I am at the point, where I am frightened to ask another question of CHAPS so i'm actually thinking of registering my foal SHB(GB) via his dam's grading even though it will cost me more that way round

although some/many breed societies are run by volunteers so dont have anyone paying any wages and have to put up with rudeness from the other side of the fence.
Not excusing CHAPS at all, as they are representing their breed society so need to be professional and polite at all times

If I had been rude to them then I would understand it but as I have contacted them 3 or 4 times now with various queries (on a change of ownership, stallion covering certs and registering a foal) and I have always been friendly and polite, I don't think there is any need for them to reply rudely! Surely it is perfectly acceptable to ask questions before sending off paperwork after all it will save them work in the long run if I get it right the first time I send it rather than getting it sent back for having incorrect information or something!

I would agree too, I asked about a DNA testing kit for my yearling to get his passport and got a response "why do you need one?" I replied saying on the covering certificate from the stud told me i needed one!! She then replied saying yes you are correct, please send a cheque for £45!

Lovely eh! I love handing over hard earned cash to people who havent the time to respond politely or just send lovely one liners after you have taken the time to ask nicely!

Thats my sentiment exactly! It makes you really not want to send them your money!
The last reply I had was short not very sweet (made me feel about a 1cm tall and as if i'd asked them to commit a criminal offence rather than asking for a form to fill out) and ended with THANK YOU! note the thank you was written in capital letters with an exclamation mark! Now I know I over use exclamation marks myself, but capitalising and putting an exclamation mark after thank you just makes it sound really sarcastic!

hmmm lets hope one of the buggers who runs it happens to fall across this thread then eh!! They might say thank you nicely next time!!

I hope they do too, because as it appears it isn't just me that seems to think this! It wasn't just the thank you, the reply was very curt at best and written as if I was stupid, made me feel about 1cm tall (and its not the first time they have replied like this) then the thank you was capitalised when the rest wasn't with an exclamation mark, a hello or a thank you for your query or just being abit politer would go along way for customer relations. When I ask questions of the SHB the replies are alwasys polite and friendly, its never too much trouble (even if they are up to their eyeballs in paperwork!) and they don't treat you as if you are stupid.
