I live in a very rural but affluent area of Hertfordshire. I'm a yard owner but do a lot of dog sitting, too. I usually charge £10/£12 to have a dog stay with us overnight (as I type, I have one of my visitors luxuriating on my lap!) and also £10 to look after a dog for a day. I was recently contacted by someone who was moving to the area from Richmond and wanted someone to look after his dog regularly almost every working day; I quoted him £15 per day including collection and delivery home. Daughter thought that was a bit excessive whereas OH is furious with me for charging so little! OH reckoned £25/£30 per day. Dog owner seemed surprised at my low charging rate! Opinions, please!

What does your licence allow?
Your vehicle won't be insured without a licence and you may find your home insurance invalid.

Are you sure? I think you may need to check as carrying dogs for trade requires declaration to teh insurers and if not declared your insurance could be void.
Doesn't matter if the dog is out & about with you if it is dropped off aor taken to your premises you should have a licence.

I think it a little low (for the area) I would pay £20 for that service. In fact, how are you fixed for having a dog live with you as part of the family for a week ? I think there is a huge market for that.

Bestdogdash, I regularly have dogs live with me as part of our "doggy family" and have some really lovely clients! I currently have two dachshunds visiting who are adorable and just walk into our house and feel immediately at home; their owner is lovely and extremely generous to the point where I feel awkward taking the extra money she frequently insists I take - she's just grateful I'm able to look after her dogs!!! But back to the matter in hand, you're obviously on my husband's side!! His argument is that this is a regular job and I need to know how much the job will be bringing in each week (sometimes owners will be working from home so won't need me). I haven't got the "business head" OH possesses and he's really annoyed that I agreed terms without discussing it with him first!

I live in Hertfordshire and I think your costs are too low, but if you are doing well with it then why not? My friend is a pet sitter and charges around £20-£30 for what you do and even has a waiting list she is so busy. I once looked for a dog walker and most prices were around £10 for a half hour walk so what you are offering for £10 is pretty cheap.

Also echo above about needing a council licence.
