I send £10 per month to the Brooke - I think they do fantastic work abroad. I'm afraid I really don't have much time for most of the so called welfare horse charities which are supposed to help horses in this country.

Well I work for Redwings and my opinion is that we do an amazing job aswell as WHW. They both deserve all the support they can get.

What about Hope Pastures? The only charity contacted who would accept the little rescue stallion found on the road? He is now being transported up there via a transport relay of H&H members but the charity have mentioned on the thread that they are very much in need of funds/ aid. :).

No but it is suggested that some charities do better jobs (well that's what I think someone meant - I may be wrong) but I don't think any charities are better than others, all do fantastic jobs, and any charity is worthy of the money and support they receive. I wasn't suggesting other charities don't do good work

It was me who said that I wouldn't give to a lot of the UK based horse charities. Redwings and WHW are of course fantastic, but there are some who like to put their publicity above the welfare of the horse - however I won't name and shame on here....some people will know too well those I am thinking of......
HOWEVER, the one thing I don't agree with - and I think it could be WHW who do it (correct me if I'm wrong) - is charities taking on ex-police horses (although with cut-backs a lot of forces are doing away with the mounted branch anyway). The Police are only too happy to use the horses to their own purpose but I think they should also take responsibility to find them good homes at the end of their careers. I'm sure there are numerous people willing to take on ex-police horses but they are sent to the charities instead - taking up a valuable space which could be used for a more worthy equine.

I'm not anti-Police - in fact my OH is one and has just gone out to work - but it's just something that has always bugged me!!

We have an ex police horse where I am, and its a shame as we don't rehome anything on medication, and he is. I don't fully understand why he came to us instead of another home. As he would have quite easily been sold to a lovely home.

Reading back I misread a comment so didn't really even need to write my last reply haha woops. but I do totally agree with you there.
