Hi all,

Do any of you have comparable experience with the shape/size of both Champion and Charles Owen hats that you could share please?

I currently have a Champion Junior X-Air which I need to replace for January. I will be replacing it with a skull cap so that I can use it in all disciplines.

I wondered whether a Charles Owen fits similar head shapes/types to the Champion hats? I will obviously measure before buying anyway but I would prefer to buy online and save myself an hours trip to try a CO on plus I can buy it cheaper online with free delivery. I have checked the online returns policy and I should be fine if needing to send it back but would like to save myself the hassle if possible.

Thanks in advance :)

I have been told that I don't have a Charles Owen shaped head but have a champion shaped head. From that comment I would think they are different shape but not sure if that true or not x

Having recently been through buying a new hat, I'd agree that Charles Owen and Champion are for different head shapes. I ended up with a Champion Junior X-air Plus skull cap, so you could always go with one of those as it should fit the same as your current one and is to the new standard.

Which is for oval heads? I need a new hat as the one I bought last year to replace my totally knackered Harry Hall still isn't comfortable 12 months in. It was a little snug when I first got it but I thought that the inside would flatten over time - it hasn't and if I ride for more than an hour it feels like I've had my head in a vice.

I think the one I have is Charles Owen but can't be sure - I just know it's uncomfortable!

Haha, ok, so it looks likely that it will not fit and I would need to try on before buying. Such a shame because I really love the look of the Charles Owen's :(. I think I will just stick with Champion and get myself the Junior skull as recommended above.

Thanks all :)

Champion fit me well, and I also have a Harry Hall show hat which fits ok too. Charles Owen are a terrible fit on me. I have an oval shaped head.

I've had 3 Champions (Ventair Skull cap and Peaked and before that a traditional velvet one) and all fit me well. Was told I had an oval head. I've tried Charles Owen on and they've never seemed to fit so not bought one, also had Harry Hall which didn't and sold it to a friend - it hadn't been used as it was too uncomfortable.

I've just bought a Charles Owen Pro II skull and I tried on a champion and a gatehouse hs1 in the shop. Neither the champion or the gatehouse fit they are oval and we're squishy at the front and gappy at the sides so I must have a round head.

I've always had Charles Owen, which have been really comfortable, but tried a champion on when I last replaced my hat - it felt terrible!

Well this thread just shows you have to go try it on!

CO pro II are oval, hs1 are very round and champion are a wider flatter oval. Hard to explain. Turn your hat upside down and look at the inside. I'll take some photos tomorrow to show you.

Charles Owen are bringing out various hats in oval or round shape now. Champion heads are quite often wide at the front and back and long front to back
