I have ordered a Charles Owen pro II plus skull helmet. Since it is not a available in my country, I could not try on for the perfect size. I have two Samshield helmets in 53cm and I have also measured my head and it was 53cm also, so I have ordered the CO for cross in size 53cm. However it turned out it is so small I can’t even get it on my head. I have tried to measure the helmet and it looks like the shell itself is 53cm but with the padding it is way smaller. I am really confused and angry now, as I probably can’t send it back because I have paid a high amount of costums cost (I have ordered from the UK and I live in the EU) which I probably can’t get back. Also, now I really don’t know which size would fit my head! Can you please help me with me issue? Has anybody else have Samshield and CO at the same time, how does the sizing goes? Thank you!

Unfortunately hat sizes can vary hugely due to the shape of the hat - I have an oval head so in a round hat my size can be 2cm bigger than in an oval shaped one. The only fail safe way of knowing if they'll fit and suit your head is to try them on as even hats by the same manufacturer can be designed to suit a different head shape. I'd also be a bit worried that a hat could be damaged being transported that far as you'd have no way of knowing if it had been dropped or not.

Someone said to me though that CO use their liners to alter the size of the fit in some of their hats and have some basic sized shells (S, M, L etc.) so possibly if you have a removable liner in the hat you could buy a liner in a bigger size and that might help the hat to fit.

I recently bought a new CO hat and had the same issue. They've now added a padded liner to it (which you can replace when it's gone all squashed!) which has subsequently reduced the size inside. I was most put out that I had to go up to the next size and price bracket, and it does look a bit big on my head but it is very comfortable and feels very secure.

My partner recently bought me a new hat as a surprise and despite telling the retailer he wanted CO in 56 they gave him a Samshield! I took one look at it and knew it wouldn’t fit as it was completely the wrong shape. It literally sat on top of my head, despite being the correct size
