I'm looking to get a new riding hat! I've always had the Charles Owen Ayr8s but they now do so many different versions! It would be for competitions and mainly for dressage. I don't want to go too sparkly (quite like a little bit though) so was wondering about the leather look - I love the leather look with sparkly trim but these are crazy expensive!
Does anybody have a leather look one? Do they scuff?
Also, does anybody use the brushed-plastic style ones for dressage, like the AyrBrush?
There's too much choice!
 
I had a bespoke one made. It’s very subtle bling and I love it. It is a couple of years old now and hasn’t scratched or marked at all, however (and I suspected this would happen) where the covering is stretched over the peak, along the edge it is starting to wear. Can’t really see it though.
 
I have a leather look one and love it! Looks really neat without being too in your face! I have had mine for about a year and a half, just give it a wipe with a damp cloth every now and then and looks as if I just got it, I just keep it in a hat bag for protection from scratches but it does not mark too easily!
 
I have the Ayrbrush helmet in navy for dressage. It goes really well with my navy jacket. I am not keen on bling either but this helmet is so smart and stylish, I love it!
 
I've got the plain leather look in navy for my at home hat and I love it. I keep it in a hat bag unless I'm riding but I wouldn't say it would mark easily.

I do get hot under it though in warmer weather, but that's compared to my previous Casco which was lovely and cool but I didn't feel very safe in it so would much rather have a sweaty head.
 
I have the navy leather look Ayr8 and I love it, it hasn't had loads of wear as I tend to grab my skull cap first but it's been worn at shows & some at home wear and kept in it's bag when not in use. Not a mark on it and good as new. Got to be 18 months old by now.
 
I think I might go with the leather look. Does anybody know if the Ayr8 Plus with the removable liner fits the same as the old Ayr8?

I believe the Ary8 Plus now comes in an 'oval' and a 'round' shape - I would say it does fit differently to my previous Charles Owen hats as I chose a round Ary8 when previously I would definitely have said I was an oval head shape! Hope that makes sense, that's my understanding of it anyway
 
Thanks for all your help! I've just ordered the Ayr8 Leather Look - the one without the removable liner so have just ordered exactly the same size as my old one!
