Evening
I'm wanting to buy tickets to go watch Chatsworth horse trials. The thing is, I have never ever been to any kind of horse show whatsoever  !! I feel embarrassed saying that!!

I've only recently started riding again under a year ago and although I was obsessed when I was younger, I come from a non horsy family and so had to save all my pocket money to ride etc!
I can't see a massive amount of info on the website so I was hoping someone would be so kind and enlighten me with what to expect?! Thanks for anything you can offer!! :)

Well, you can have a good walk round the XC course over the hilly parkland in front of the house, stop at the top of the hill for a pause, watch people going through the lake while eating either strawberries or coffee and a muffin depending on the weather. Watch some displays and pony club kids playing gymkhana games in the display arena, watch some show jumping in the other arena. Have a look round the trade stands, find a few bargains but mostly posh expensive stuff that must be for the proper eventing crowd ;). Have some more food (if the Welsh Oggie company are there they do some great pasties), and generally have a great day out!

Oh, and if you're in the area, you have to do Bakewell Show as your next outing in August at the minimum as well :)

I love Chatsworth - when I lived in Derbyshire we were just round the corner (literally!) so we went every year. Expect a lot of walking!

It's worth getting hold of the schedule beforehand so that you can plan your day - it's easy to miss your fav horses/riders if you don't keep an eye on the running order. We always used to get there early to walk the course, so we could plan what fences we really wanted to see and what the quickest routes between them were (it's easy to miss loads travelling between fences). Chatsworth was (hopefully still is) good in that course is quite 'loopy' so it's easy to cut between fences without having to walk round the whole thing. :)

Enjoy, I wish I could go this year - wanted to combine it with visiting my old schoolfriends who still live in the area - but already have to be in 5 different places that weekend :D

And aww, Bakewell Show, I miss it all!

I've never booked tickets, you just turn up and pay as you walk in. Normally we get there for mid to late morning, and spend a relaxed couple of hours wandering the XC and seeing horses go around as we go, then head down to the shops, buy lunch, and watch showjumping for the afternoon. XC will run nearly all day, there is no specific time, just wander around at leisure! Its a fantastic day out, something for all the family so to speak, as other posters have mentionned - I go every year with my long suffering non horsey other half, something that we can both enjoy perhaps in different ways (and I have to remember my "endless patience" to deal with his strange and inane questions!)

Have been there when its tipped it down and been scorching hot and always had a great memorable day - you will love it!
