As above - hope it has all gone well and your boy is on the mend.

To be honest not brilliant.

He was walking very stiffly and was pretty miserable but it was the first morning with out painkillers...she has taken bloods to test his kidneys (as he was on his back for such a long time) and also because she suspects he is tying up. We will get the results on Monday. She has prescribed more Metacam for the pain and has said if he is not walking better next week to have x rays taken to check for bone fissures (no fractures as far as she can tell). However after the painkiller kicked in he was walking 100% better and for the first ime today was actually brinnging his hind forward rather than shuffling.....so I don;t know I am inclined to think if it was something truly terrible then he wouldn't be making normal movement even witht he pain killers.....Maybe I am just being over hopeful.

Worst thing though for me (and I am inclined to think that this has a lot to do with him walkling so stiffly is where he was lying on the ground and obviously struggling to get up his skin is cracking open and peeling off....and we are not talking small areas here! his entire hip area, his entire rib area on his off side and his entire shoulder on the off side.....plus his entire ear, side of his face, neck......in a nutshell he will be down to bare skin on most of the off side.

We had been keeping the damaged areas moist to help it peel but poor guy is so damn sore......today we have covered and I mean covered him in Green Clay mostly to keep the new skin away from the sun and as it is cooling it was giving him some relief. In all honestly I have never ever seen anything like this before....And anyone with any experience of this please tell me how your horse came out of it and what you did to ease them.....I feel so cruel subjecting him to haveing to be showered and dressing the skin 3 times a day.....

Sorry but really Crap day today!

O bless him!! I don't know what to suggest really - all I can say if he was mine I would be giving him lots of arnica to help with the bruising and swelling and to help with the skin I would be giving him aloe vera juice in some feed to help heal from the inside and would be putting pure aloe vera ge/or Gold Label Wonder gel on his skin on the outside.

Will have a think if there is anything else that may help.

Hugs for you both.

The problem seems to be with the gels that they keep all the skin wet which is making ths skin underneath have a fluid covering (sorry not explaining this well!) which then scabs agains overagain and off we go again.

We thought with the Green Clay it would at least when it comes away take the hair and only leave clear healthy skin.....Plus protect against the Sun .

He also seemend to find it a relief and let me touch it after it was on to smooth it over whereas the gels seemed to be really smarting and he wanted you no way near.
