I am looking for cheap insurance for my 3yr tb mare can anyone suggest any good ones i could look into please? also i have heard BHS do insurance...is anyone with them and are they reasonably priced?
thanks! :o

I'm with SEIB for my 2yo they were the cheapest I could find with good history (ulike E&L!) Bhs do insurance for public liability with one of thier memberships but am unsure if they do vet fee's cover (dont think they do?) But perpared to be corrected :p :D

I would say going with "cheap" in the horse insurance market probably means you'll run into problems when it comes to a claim.

I'd say the competitive good companies are the likes of NFU (who I would recommend), SEIB, stoneways etc. Only way to compare prices is to ring around for quotes.

BHS give you 3rd party liability, personal accident cover etc if you join as a gold member (about £50). They don't cover for vets fees, loss of animal etc.

I'm with rural insurance through equestrian world insurance services, (who are very helpful!) I've not (fingers crossed touch wood!) had need to put their payouts to the test yet but I have on here found out that they are a reputable agricultural insurer and the horse insurance is a branch out from this. They are very reasonable (not E&L reasonable!! but a hell of a lot cheaper than NFU!) I've had quotes for my riding mare for £50-£60 per month with NFU and Petplan, but with KBIS, Rural, scottish equestrian insurance, and stoneways of around £30!!

The KBIS policies are good as they are underwritten by allianz, who also underwrite petplan! So maybe worth trying them?

Of course with cheaper companies you always run the risk of running into problems, but as far as I'm aware all insurers seem to have similar reputations with regard to payouts bar one!! (who we all know!!)
