Cheap(ish) hardstanding area ideas?!?

Have recently tried road planings; btu it seems even though the drainage and the membrane was done properly; the area has become muddy and very wet again; this is only after 2 months of having it done.

...looking for an alternative that can be done cheap; but effective; it does seem that a lot of people on H & H have £££££££ to spend; but i havent seen the money tree in the garden yet; so im looking for cheap; and possibly different; unique ideas for keeping the cost of the hard standing; low.

...i didnt know if a brick pathway kind of approach would work?!?...have tried road planings; tarmac is very expensive.

...any ideas from people who have done a hard standing area?!? thank you; Jess.

I got crushed concrete under grade one road base, am not too impressed as top stones are quite big and sharp and dont seem to be settling in much, hoping it will improve once it is fenced off and i can drive onto it. area is 50 feet square, took three days to clear and lay and cost almost £3000.

Ex council paving slabs, they are about two foot by four foot and can be got for as little as a pound. Jolly thick too ,we used them on a big field entrance site very successfully many years ago and they`re still perfect.

...very expensive; not because of the product; but the amount needed apparently; as it is a part load from the company so basically being charged for use of half a truck.

...interesting idea; wouldnt they just sink though?!?... dont you haev to put something underneath the paving to make it suitablke?!?...thank you; interesting idea.

Paving slabs on sand & cement base (like you would do for a patio) or I have some areas with "stones & fines" (which my council use for their footpath/bridleway resurfacing) and it settles into a lovely flat surface as the fines fill in between the stones so it isnt sharp. It needs driving over a few times after laying.
Or, my car park area has large woodchip (like they use in kids play areas) over builders hardcore. It has been down now for 6 years and I often turn the horses out on it in wet weather. It is hard to muck out though as the wood chips arent much smaller than droppings!
