My vet has recommended cosequin for my horse. Could someone tell me where it's cheapest please?
I've done a search on here and a few people have mentioned that it's cheaper to buy it from the states and pay import taxes? How does that work? Do you pay it all upfront or do you buy it from the company and then pay the taxes separately? If anybody could recommend a good US company for buying it this way I'd be grateful.
Thanks

Just remember that even if you pay the taxes, you will also have to pay the VAT as well.

If it gets stopped by customs you will have to pay an extra fee. Royal Mail also put on an £8 handling charge on top of the customs duty. This is because they have to pay the customs up front and then get it back off you. Not sure if the wording on the customs declaration (filled in by sender) helps. Ive heard that if they say its a gift then customs let it through. Not 100% sure on that tho.

If it gets stopped by Customs you will pay, the duty, which legally you should do anyway.

Then there is the shipping costs, which include the postage and packaging, and the customs clearance.

These charges are separate from the duty and taxes, and are charged by the carrier.

The VAT is based on the purchase price plus the duty. So £10 cost of goods £5 duty = £15 = 15% Vat = £2.25 Total cost £17.25

Hope this helps

Duty and VAT is calculated on the cost of the goods INCLUDING shipping,. However if your shipment has a total value of under £18 then it doesn't get charged VAT (it's £36 for gifts so a friend can send it to you..) Duty only gets charged once the total value is over £105. There is also a standard RM handling fee (if by post) which on this sort of value is £8 but increases the higher the cost of the goods, if coming by a carrier eg Fed Ex it tends to be about £10 for a low value item.
You should also check that there are no restrictions on importing it.
You may find it cheaper to import from EEC (no duty no tax as this has already been paid at point of entry to EEC) as the Euro is quite favourable compared to the £ at the moment.
