I can't decide wether to try megazorb again or go back to cheap shavings. I have been through quite a few beddings for my horses over the years. I am currently using laysoft for my TB but I'm finding it very heavy and have tennis elbow now from it. I go through 3 a week so it is now not working out much cheaper than shavings. Out of all the ones I have tries, megazorb has been my favourite but that was 10-12 years ago with my clean Arab and I can't remember what it worked out cost wise. How many bales do you put in a week, compared to shavings etc? If I put 2 in a week, it will all work out much the same price wise but the bags are so tiny and if I use more, it will be very expensive! My horse is set to move into a much bigger stable shortly so I think once he settles in, he will keep his stable neater.

If you're wanting cheap can you not use straw? I've just put my two youngsters on it after not using straw for about 8 years even though I get it free (being a farmer), as I used to find it hard work. I love having them on it now, they're both far easier on straw. I love shavings but their beds always looked dirty. I still have 2 others on shavings and I use Safemix and Natural Flake (now called Smart Horse) alternatively, so I use 1 bale per week. They're in pretty much 24/7 atm too.

We aren't allowed to use straw and I hate it anyway. We had to use it at my old stables and would never use it again. I haven't heard of those shavings, I will have a google of them. Thanks

have you tried Unibed? It's retailing at around £6 a bale and is the chopped rapeseed straw (dust extracted and treated too).

Just a thought.

I use 2 bales a week (on a deep litter system) through winter and maybe 1 every 8 days or so in the summer.
