Is there such a thing as a cheap sweet itch rug, or even a rug you would recomend for sweet itch sufferers that is not aimed at horses with sweet itch?

I've only been able to find rugs for £100+, which i will pay do stop him itching but im reluctant to pay for one if there are cheaper ones about because i know next year i will be paying for a big one as hes only 2 and growing like a weed!

Any suggestions would be great

If you horse has proper sweet itch, you really do need the pyjama type rugs, as others like the rambo or a standard fly rug with belly flap doesn't provide adequate coverage.

My poor boy gets bitten really badly along his belly if not covered up, now my only problem area is the sheath.

There's one called a Pagony rug and if you wanna contact me off-line I can probably dig out the address where I got it from. Its a bit like a Boett but the cheapy version of it (same material).

However a lot of these special rugs have to go on the horse over the head - not helpful in all situations!!

I have found that the "Premier Equine" sweet itch rug and flymask is good - and very easy to put on. Touch wood my boy hasn't wrecked it as easily as other rugs I've bought. The ones you can buy in saddlery places which are made of thin meshy stuff are totally flipping useless in my opinion; my boy usually wrecks them after about 2 or 3 days and its a waste of money.

I think I got the Pagony from someone called Solva Sweet Itch Solutions somewhere in Wales if my memory serves me right - anyway you should find it on a search.

Also, re. supplements for sweet itch etc - everything I've tried has been totally USELESS (rant!!!!) and a total waste of money so if anyone has found something that works i'd be interested. I have tried the latest thing and it was useless - and at one of their displays at a County Show recently I told them so too!!

Net Tex Stop Itch Salve Complete is good but messy. I use it around my boys eyes/ears and sheath areas.
tbh...if you are in a midgy area then I don't think anything other than covering up will help. If that is the case then relocation is the only answer.
