I'm considering getting a cheap temporary saddle to tide me over until I can afford to get a nice new wintec/possibly leather saddle, as the saddle my horse came with is just plain ugly to be honest :D and is a jumping saddle, so I don't find it very appropriate for plodding round the fields.

Out of all the very cheap synthetic/leather saddles out there, which is the "best" and for what reason?

I'm talking under £150 e.g. hi-lites, maxam, kinkade, rhinegold..... all those kind of makes.

Thanks in advance :)

if the saddle that he came with is a reasonable/good fit for him, then i would bear with it til you have saved to buy what you actually want. buying a cheap saddle under £150 will just add to the cost! if it fits but is uncomfey for you buy a seat saver, or could you beg/borrow one to tide you through? or ride bareback .. keeps you warm in winter, and inproves your balance and seat! or bite the bullet and buy what you want on an interest free card, and pay it off regularly.

i have all of mine in maxam there soooo comfy for horse and rider i would never use a leather saddle again EVER! ebay have some great bargains! :D

If it aint broke - don't fix it. It might be ugly but once it's got yer bum on it no one will see it. I picked up my Wintec for £80 and it's sound as a pound and comfy for both me and him. Shires Optimum are quite expensive - almost/if not more than Wintecs. If you're going to get a new Wintec though you'll be spending nigh on £500 and you could get a nice second hand leather one for that. :)

Save your pennies, stick with that you've got if it fits and then get something REALLY nice in a little while. :)

It doesn't fit though :( I think cos he's lost so much condition with previous owner it's now too wide and rocks forward when you trot/he decides it's time to stop at something scary, and it... Including the girth slips back about 10 cm after each use and ends up in like the middle of his back :(

I know the shires are more expensive but I was considering getting a credit card to buy something new, and I really don't like/have a desire to have a leather saddle.

Thanks for all the replies x

hi
i did the same as your planning to do, worst decision i have ever made i brought a wintec worst money i have ever spent carnt get on with it saddle has no give like sitting on house brick tips me forward i hate it !!!!!!:mad:
if i was you save the money to put towards saving up for new saddle and use the one you have got for now with saddles there expensive and you definatley get what you pay for
hope this helps :)

The Wintec isn't even in the same ball park as these cheap saddles - I may not like how they fit (and how uncomfortable they are for some people) but they are pretty well made and safe. We're talking safety as well as fit here.
