does anyone know any cheaper alternatives to the KK ultra snaffle with the lozenge in the middle or the NEw schuele starter bit. I am going to buy one for my youngster who is going to start bitting soon but i dont really want to spend £80 on a bit

I use the Neu Schule with the central lozenge on my youngsters and old horses and they go very well in it. Just bought another one yesterday at Badminton and it was £59.95.

I have the J P revolver bit, its fantastic, loose ring with peanut link. Cost about £14 I think and really really good, has independent action each side and does not pinch.

thanks for the info will look into it. I must admit i thought they were similar but was going to go for the NS starter bit as it is cheaper than the KK ultra for now.

Yes there are both loose ring with a lozenge, however they work on different pressure points in the mouth, and your horse would appreciate the difference in them

The closest bit to the KK ultra is the Neue Schule tranz lozenge which you can pick up new for less than half price of the KK. You can pick up "loose ring lozenged" alternatives for less done by jeffries, Cottage Craft and Mark Todd if you so wish, but will be a different metal and the lozenge will be angled differently in the horses moth, so therefore the angle of the arms in the horses mouth will be different when the contact is taken up

SO, depends why you want a kk/Ns type bit, to what you buy
