Though our farmer at our yard supplies his own hay, he has put the price up to £7 a bale this year:eek: and they aren't even good quality bales with some being mouldy. Where in Hampshire and Surrey sells cheaper hay?! I'm based in Dogmersfield near Fleet/Farnham.

Doubt you'll get cheaper than the above, now. My hay isn't all that, this year. It's more thistles than grass and falls apart. It's like handling flour, it's so flimsy and badly packed. Seriously thinking of switching to oat straw for next year, it's getting so ridiculous around here!

OM me for more details, but my OH is a Farmer in Hampshire (not too far from you) and the prices are going down this year for quality hay... Not many farmers I know are putting Hay up?!?

I don't know if hay is different where you are, but my farmer in Kent has had a good yield and is selling lovely hay for £4 per bale. Sadly it's all spoken for to regular customers, but it makes me think that if you shop around you may be able to beat £7 (!!!) per bale.

If you want cheap hay. Get large bale not small ones. They are expense but I find 1 bale is 50 small bales and it works out the half the price of small bales. And the hay will be the same all the way though.

We have hay coming out of our ears here! :D I think you need to shop around a bit; it MUST be available cheaper than that somewhere near you?!

We're paying £20 for a Eurobale and have been quoted about £4.50 for small bales for winter which as I was paying £3.50 over two years ago I don't think is bad for this area.

Totally agree. two fields near me have had 3 cuts this year!!! It has been a good hay crop. I've been quoted £5 for delivered small bales but I'm buying a few large square ones for £30 a bale.
