Cheaper Haylage!

Because Pete, my TB, is having to eat so much haylage to keep his weight on I wondered if anyone knew where to find it cheaper? We are going to change him to the Ryegrass horsehage which is cut earlier so it is higher in energy and better for putting on weight and condition.

Unless anyone knows a stockist (in Surrey or on the Internet!) who sells quality (not coarse/dry etc) haylage in larger volumes so it is therefore cheaper?

I dont know what Fosburys own haylage is like - anyone had any experience with it?

Just thought of someone else http://www.jrt-forage.co.uk/about.html some liveries at my yard use these people - they are smaller bales (25kg i think) they don't deliver though but the product is really nice quality and there is never any left in the morning

I use http://www.bailliehaylage.co.uk/. Although it isn't small bales, I only have one horse large horse on it and get through about one bale per week. The quality is absolutely fantastic!

I was previously on Horsehage and he was eating nearly a bale a day so it was costing me a fortune - I have now almost halved my costs by changing to Baillie!

Thank you. The Baillie Haylage looks great but I am not sure my yard owner would allow a big lorry to come deliver it just for me! As we are supposed to order our haylage from her (she orders from a local feed merchant) so I am not sure what to do...have contacted them tho.

Again, the same problem arises with lincsforage.

There are lots of places- assuming you want small bales rather than big bales you could try
No Soak Haylage- they make small bales, if you google them their details should come up, they are in Sussex

Have used the Main Bale(JRT Forage) small bales in the past when I had to use small bales for a while- they lasted for ages and gd quality stuff.

main bale is normally £6.50 in my local feed shop but if you can collect it from their base it goes down quite alot - think£5.60. That price is for 25 bales but if you phone they may drop it again for a larger order
