oooops yes! Flat fell through (3rd one in a row) so I figured it was fate.....soo so happy that I can keep him. Going to move in with a mate for a year and see what happens on the relationship front I guess.

had a great day yesterday - the horse that cannot jump was popping 2ft 3" with a bit of encouragement in the jumping paddock. bloody green but we had great fun and he loved it....knew he had the irish blood in him somewhere!

May look for a sharer for a few days a week when I'm gigging, but think we're finally pulling everything together - want to look at getting a 4 x 4 and get him out and about - only way he's going to stop being so green is to get more experience I guess.

We are big fans of Discos (daugher went from Clio to M reg Disco no problem) - daughter has manual, OH has newer (03) auto. Both diesel, both do high 20s on a normal cycle, more on a long run. Also surprisingly cheap to insure, so worth getting some quotes. Have had Land Cruisers in the past, and Jeeps, but nothing comes close to these for driveability.

What they like for towing a trailer?

I prefer towing with an auto to a manual, but the Discos are fine for towing. Any sturdy car with decent weight and grunt will do fine, but I particularly like 4x4s that are 4wd on the road. Many, such as Terranos, are rwd on the road, and on wet or slippery road surfaces you don't have the same grip.

Yes the Defender are abit less comfy, acually quite alot less comfy. But it depends on what model you want. The newer ones have Air con where we have gun turrets. And electric windows.I wouldent swop my defender for anything. But it will pull a house with the power!.

My Shogun has a 2 WD setting which is meant to make it more economical to run... Think mine is about 18p/mile for pottering around locally. (Sorry never have understood miles/gallon!)

landrover discoverys are excellent for towing

ours pulled a very ancient heavy trailer with a 16h VERY heavweight irish draught x up a very big, steep hill with no problems at all.

they are very heavy on diesel though and with tax etc going up it probably works out very expensieve

Which ones would you recommend?

Um - at the risk of sounding really repetitive, I do prefer the Land Rovers. We found the Toyota was just not as comfortable, and although the Discos are a bit agricultural, they are great to drive once you get used to them. We use ours as a main car for holidays etc (we are good at shouting over the engine!) so it has to be comfy, and the seats in a Disco are the comfiest I have ever sat in. The Jeep ones are pretty luxurious, but a bit squashy in comparison. Just have a look around and see what takes your fancy.

Yeah, probably best. I've had my eye on either a discovery or a grand cherokee so will see what's about....I thinkthe smaller cherokee (but bigger engine) would be ok but I do need to think that I'll probably get a large trailer and be towing 2 horses alot of the time so it needs to have the guts!
