Hi all. What do you use to moisturise / strengthen your horses hooves and where do you buy it and for how much please. Internal or External solutions sourced. Thanks.

Hoof heal is the best product i can recommend. It is concentrated and only needs applying three times a week. It is only £9 a tub/bottle and is very good at improving poor horn quality

Keratex liquid hoof hardener. apply with the small brush supplied. Works wonders. I always keep a bottle. Cheapest on ebay, can cost a fortuned in some tack shops.

We feed Biotin. I find it great at strengthening our TBs hooves. Its made by NAF and very cheap at about £12 for 2kg. There are the other more expensive like Farriers Formula but i find since ours does fine on the Biotin i leave it at that. Farriers formular and other hoof supplements have other benefiting stuff in them extra, that some horses may need. We also apply NAF Hoof Moist to the outside, its a cream that goes directly on the hoof, to be applyed everyday if possible.

Internally, I feed Formula 4 Feet and I buy it in a sack as it works out a lot cheaper in the long run. Externally I use Kevin Bacon liquid hoof dressing which comes in a can with a brush in the lid. You can get both these from Surrey Equestrian which is the cheapest I have found. I used to use Prequestrian, they are still good for F4F, but if you are buying both products Surrey Equestrian are best value.

So...next question (and thanks guys I am now getting straight online to check these all out) can you overdo how much you try them on ie to apply externally and feed them supplements for hoof too? Lastly, are your horses shod or bare feet / 2 on / 2 off?

Our TB is shod. The cob mix type,(my mum calls him a Heinz 57!!) lol, is barefoot. Used to be shod but so much easier barefoot, and with his type there feet will revert back to theyre natural shape as shoes have changed them slightly over the years. (often seen on back feet in cobs) Both are fed supplements, biotin 50g a day. Try one external for a month and see if there is a difference. I cant see any harm in feeding supplement and applying externaly as long as you follow the intrusctions on the packaging. Shame it takes so long to see the effects of supplements, allthough they do work it can months to see enough regrowth to judge

im thinking about going barefoot as some others are recommending this and my friends welshie is barefoot too.......im watching various clips and perusing forums, seems its a highly controversial subject!
