It does matter how thick they are actually. If you have a horse then you don't want matting any thinner than about 18mm. If you have thinner then it will probably rip under the weight & twisting & turning your horse does in a stable. One of the cheapest 18mm mats arouns is:

Keep a look out for 2nd hand mats (advertised locally). I have advertised 2 lots that were only used for 3 months as mine now live out so you can get hold of it that way. I've just sold my Equimats and have black mats still for sale.

Somebody I know is selling their matting. Redditch area.
They are 6X4 sheats, so 6 of them fit a 12 x12 stable.

Cheap doesn't always mean best as we found to our cost, the mats were badly cut so we had to spend time trimming edges before we could lay it against walls etc. If i had known I would have paid more to be able to lay them straight down.

Two of my house sitting customers have there stables rubber matted, it was done by a company called Quattro, its excellent properly laid down and sealed with like heavy duty black sealant, it looks excellent, as said cheapest is not always the best, dont think quattro is particulary cheap but it s the best stuff ive seen. I house sat for some one else that had the green equi mat that like "clicked" together like jigsaw pieces but with it not been properly sealed down it was lifting where shavings had got under it.

I've got these and I'm really pleased with them, got mine from this seller, don't know wether they are the same company or not, I'm sure her delivered it in a carpetpac van. I've got the cross easysweep ones in my other stable but prefer these.

Another vote for Quattro here, we use their stable matting in our horseboxes.
