Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for relatively cheap long leather boots to be used for local shows and sometimes every day riding if I'm not using my johddy boots! So not going to break within the first 3 rides, but not yard boots, and nothing that's going to break the banks - so ideally under the £150-£200 mark, I've been saving away! I've used Mountain Horse before but found them horribly chunky and uncomfortable and rub me to this day! If anyone has any recommendations it would be appreciated :) Thanks! xx

We bought our daughter Brogini's they were £150. She wears them about once a week when at a show or for hunting - they are her 'best' pair and so far they seem to be ok for the job.

Second hand! Works for me every time!

agree :D
i paid £150 for a pair of sergio grasso versensa boots of ebay and love them :) was so impressed by them i ordered a brand new pair and promply sent them straight back as they weren't as nice as the nicely worn in second hand pair ;)

took ages to win the right pair ,so you have to be patient :)

Yeah I saw some of the cheaper Brogini ones, very tempted hehe :D

And am looking on eBay as we speak, I'm nervous about ordering online though as I'm terrible when it comes to things fitting! xx

I have Shires ones for everyday and not too best best. They were £100 I think and are actually surprisingly nice. I am toying with getting the laced ones as well. If you happen to know someone with a trade catalogue then they'd cost you about £60. I am lucky and do :D

O and they have never cut up my legs like the other girls on the yard who have mountain horse boots have been cut up. I wouldn't walk miles in them but for pottering from the tack room to my stable and back they're fine.

It's the calf size you need to watch. I got standard as that works for most things, but wish I'd got the wide as it was a real struggle to do zip up at first. Better now they've worn in - and I don't have especially chunky calves. They ARE very supportive around the ankle though so ideal for people who need a bit of extra support there. I have one weak ankle where it's been first broken then badly strained, and the support offsets the initial tightness around the calf :-)

I got second hand Cavallo long boots on ebay for £15 including postage.
They are gorgeous, my best bargain of the year for sure!

I've got my old showing boots if you are interested - Regents (complete with garter strap) size 5 standard calf.

Shires Norfolk leather riding boots, zip up the back, button up at the top, a nice cheap but elegant looking ridnig boot so ideal for showing, they retail at around £125.00 and considering the price and the make, they are actually quite nice leather boot, I tried some on after I got my Petrie's and I was quit impressed, so if your on a budget then consider them, much better nicer than the other budget boots about anyway.

Etd. to say I've noticed Jesstickle as also recomended these and given you a link.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Regarding the Shires boots - I have a 37 calf (give or take 1/4 inch) and am a size 4-5 (so not really chunky, but not exactly er.. skinny), but being 5'4-5'5 I can't have the shorter lengths.. The Shires I don't think will fit?! The Mark Todd look good, and Ariats.. Hmmm.. Now to find a stockist which sells both so I can try them :D Really love the look of the Brogini as well.. Gah! Am spoilt for choice :D One thing I've found with long boots is they often aren't snug enough at the front of the ankle and top of the foot? Not that I have flat feet, maybe my legs are just odd :D Hmm.. trial and error I suppose it will be.. xx
