The farmer at our yard has a ma-hooooo-sive bright green new-ish JD (John Deere) Tractor... Mr Farmer loves it.... it's his baby! He comes into the field in the JD and is pursued by Rox - all of the other horses scarper out of the way - not Rox! OH informed me today Mr Farmer told him Rox was trying to bite the treads on the tyres of the JD and the mud guards *rolls eyes*

We had a rabbit hole in the field, so temporarily put a blue barrell (weighted down inside with sand and grit) over the hole. Turned Rox out into the field and all of the herd came over to greet him. A rabbit shot from out the barrell, the barrell rocked and made a fair bit of noise due to the sand and grit inside it, all the other horses bolted up top end of the field, Rox strolls over to the barrell pushing it with his nose to investigate lol! He's so laid back it is unbelievable!

So you can put a face to the cheeky chap, here's a photo of Rox....

My homebred 2yo is like that, I think it's fab!! My friend had his tractor round here the other week, so I thought I'd introduce Ozzy to it, and he marched straight over to it and tried to stick his head under the bonnet to see where the racket was coming from!

I'm hoping that he'll be pretty bombproof as he's virtually impossible to scare! (Not so good if I need to shoo him away!)

Rudey, gorgeous cheeky chappy u have!!

but im afraid if he anything like mine they will never change! hes 9 now and just like yours doesnt run from ANYTHING has to go and investigate, hes the only pony i know that tries to look in peoples cars and shopping bags when we r out hacking!!

He is seriously cool! Our trainer has a lovely QH colt, beautifully bred who has a permanently twisted foot after an accident as a foal. However, he thinks he is perfect! He spent much of his yearling winter on box rest to try and improve the foot, and when we turned him out in a little paddock with a companion in an adjacent paddock he was hilarious!
He would race around in his wonky way and really wind his companion up, and if you led a mare past him you'd get this ridiculous 'hello darling' performance with much rearing, plunging and showing off. If my mare had spotted him before we went past she'd ignore him, but if he managed to sneak up on her he'd send her into orbit, which he thought was great!
Because of his character and breeding he'll probably be kept entire although he can never be ridden and will probably have to AI his mares. But he's such a happy little soul...

Stinky was and still is like that and Farra is as brave - everything is investigated. They hack out with guns going off etc.

I did put a lot of work into Stinky as a baby to get him used to all the things I could think of to spook him. He does occasionally do one but it is rare.

Only problem - you try getting them off something they should not be near - yelling, banging, throwing bags, waving brooms - not a chance at a reaction, you have to go over and physically remove them.

what a handsome lad your rox is! i have a very cheeky yearling rising 2yr ols now cant believe it were has the time gone? i was lying in the field in the summer reading a book and sunbathing and he comes over grabs my shoe off my foot then procedes to run around like a loon with it in his mouth for a while before dropping it over the fence into next field the wee bugger i fell asleep in his stable once to and i only woke up after he pawed me very roughly and his nose was right at my forehead lol i love him to bits but he odes play a bit rough sometimes i keep saying to him no teefs or hooveys vinnie

Luci07 Here's hoping he becomes a fearless eventer! He seems to have a natural ability to jump.... he cleared his 4 foot stable door twice at standstill and casually sauntered over to the big hay bale in the yard to eat. Eyes bigger then his belly, he had a full rack of the same hay in his stable!! Needless to say, he has a grid up now lol!
cool.gif

xena_wales lol Ozzy sounds like fun... but I dread to think of what they will do next lol! We have a guy that gets rid of our rabbits for us. Initially he would ambuscade in the trees with his gun in decked out in his camouflage gear ... then get Rox appear to say hello and to see if he wanted to play, blowing his cover lol!... He then decided to use nets over the holes and send ferrets down... Rox robbed his nets and legged it across the field with them in his mouth!!!
