Hello been meaning to PM you all week but didn't realise we are in same section. Don't worry about Lucy W, I've just got back from Barbury and she did a stunning dressage test today

(yeah right)
Was going to PM you as I've entered Winkleigh and wanted to know what it was like and how long it's going to take etc.
I'm so excited. The ground at Barbury was lovely , it's like all that rain hasn't fallen there.

CCj is going to watch at Barbury tomorrow, right now she is out having fun somewhere so I get uninterrupted use of the computer..
Winkleigh is not very hilly, and if you go back through some of CCJ's old vids in the gallery of Chocolate they show virtually the entire course. The water is a step in for PN, (they won't allow them to use the double steps apparently as considered too difficult)
There is little walking to get anywhere as the box park has the dressage field next door, and the other way is the Sj, tradestands and XC course. If you go to Southcott Cross country via google I think they show the entire course in pictures. If not we have the course pics ourselves.
I'm not sure how they tell you to drive there, we live about 45 mins drive away, and go via Whiddon Down exit off the A30, then cross country to the event.
It's a very laid back nice event without too much difficulty so I think you'll enjoy it.
Time wise we are an hour and a half from Bristol, and then 45 mins to the event, but where we live is narrow single track lanes and that takes ages to negotiate.
You are very welcome to stable here overnight but the access is terrible..(and we have very basic stables, and you are opposite a stallion....)

If you want to let me know, it may make the event much easier for you if you can walk the course the day before as C always does.
We're at Sl the following day too with a horse doing his first Intro, the plan had been several unaff plus Nutwell, now it's straight in regardless, so no great result anticipated with him..he isn't a water fan..

Hiya

Thanks loads for the offer. As usual I'm totally disorganised and thought Winkleigh was on a Sunday not Saturday only now I've checked. I'm not finishing work till late Friday so it will be get up early job Saturday morning. Not looking forward to narrow lane driving though

Hope we go well.
CCJ will have a ball tomorrow. Lovely lovely event, I had a great day.
Sooo let's hope for drier weather and I'll see you next week on Madam

Good luck to CCJ, I'll give you a wide berth if I'm on the horse although she's a lot better now we've had a marble inserted

The route from A30 to Southcott is all proper roads with white lines. I hate nasty little roads without white lines - so scary - but my OH keeps on making me drive on them so I learn!

Tell me about it - my OH always reverses when he meets someone - particularly in Summer when you there's tourists - you can seem them look down to find reverse. Probably the scariest things I've met (on the road from the A30 to Whiddon Down) are the lorries carrying static caravans. They are huge and take up most of the road (and don't always have lead/chase cars.

I do have sympathy for the tourists though! I find reversing hard, and it's against my instincts to be brushing the hedge in the passing places...
