OK we may not have known Whispered Promises but he ran his heart out all the same. Pity his trainer (David Pipe) couldn't even give his death a mention on his website, no they mention their winners and have forgotten about the one who died. Charming! As for the presenters who call horses "IT" or "THAT"; well they don't do their industry any favours do they. We need to see more people like Inglis Devers lass who showed her passion & love for her horses. A little respect for the HORSE who we all love and adore.
 
The Pipe team are usually very good at informing people about information such as this and I am sure the owners ( who I have met, Roger Brookhouse) will be gutted by the news. I had no idea the horse had died and yet I saw the fall and it did not look good and was one of the horses I had backed in the race.
Mr Brookhouse seemed a very nice chap and I am sure with respect he does not see his horses as commodities but I can see your point Barbara as sadly some owners and trainers do view them as such

ME = horse i love will NEVER get a mention when he dies
THEM= might he a mention when they die

Instead of concentrating on one horse in one sport... you may want to add a whole list of those who die daily around the world for OUR sport....

I think it's a little harsh to say there was no respect shown. I am always wary of C4's ability to keep viewers informed of a horse's prognosis when there is a nasty fall - unlike BBC, they are sometimes prone to not saying when a horse has passed away - but I was impressed on Friday that they were quick to let us know that a) Whispered Promises was still down and b), soon after this, that he never got up. I would say in this instance, C4 got it right.

Cant speak for the trainer though; you would expect there to be some mention, seeing as Whispered Promises was quite a well known horse.
 
I saw the race and they did say that Whispered Promises had died as a result of his fall. I feared the worst because when he fell he tried to rise but fell back down and his legs were stiff and straight out.
Very sad but a reality in horse sport of any kind.
 
David Pipe wrote a column in The Guardian during the festival and said in it they had lost Whispered Promises and it was always a sad time for a yard.
 
Thanks for your contribution starr_g as I for one could not understand or believe that Pipe senior or junior had failed to give the horse a mention.
Having personally met and spoken to both trainers I can wholly say they are thoroughly decent people and I can remember how upset they were -as was Tony McCoy - when Gloria Victis and Valiramix both died as a result of falls at the festival so I could in no way believe that the stable would fail to recognise the loss of one of their charges.
I have not read The Guardian this week and the only paper I have read is the Racing Post and Cheltenham race guide. On Saturday I was form reading and betting and did not have the time to read through the results and comments for Friday. I was unaware of the demise of Whispered Promises ( whom I had backed on Friday - in Coral Cup- and last year, in the Supreme novice hurdle if my memory serves me correctly?) until reading about it on this forum.
I saw the fall which looked bad but as I was watching the racing that day in the bookmakers and not on Ch4 - which I had the previous days- then I did not have access to any post race information via the screened media.
It is especially sad when any racehorse gets killed at the track or as a result of an injury sustained whilst racing and despite my association with racing through journalism I have never become hardened to it and nor will I ever be.
