So on the course description for Cheltenham it says "We will continue with the development of the course....." Which is very bloody informative - given that I seem to have entered it in a moment of madness.
I have been reliably informed that you canter up a hill, then turn round and canter down it again and that the jumps are very boring and really small...... Can anyone confirm to me that the Really small statement is true (or if not lie!)
Going should at least be ok.

I just spoken to my sister, she did it 2 years ago though so it may have changed.

It is the most boring small straightforward flat course and a disappointment, the jumping is on a slight slope and the dressage areanas are well away from the jumping with a nice big warm up.

This was the first event Spot managed to get inside the time on, mainly because it was complelty straight and flat

think Urchinwood only easier

OK so it's my fave of the PN dressage tests & sounds like it isn't too scary. Now I'm feeling a litle excited

Just need to get schooling.....

Yep, you need to learn the test, the XC course is quite nice, nothing complicated really, no water, and only a ditch in the PN. Not really very hilly, quite gentle. The ground the past two years has been awful, really hard, although there may not be that problem this year..........!

M, it is tiny and flat and boring! You will be fine. It is another one crossed off my list of 'worth taking a day off work for'.

Going should be ok, which will make a change, usually like concrete there.

Honestly, you will be fine on the PN, it is dead easy, just don't do what I did last year and get TE!! (Jumped the intro fence - last one on the course - not the PN, idiot).

I would have happily done the novice there last year, let alone this year!

Oh, and also, learn the test in the lorry on the way there, you always seem to do better that way!

I might have pics of the XC at home if you are desperate!

This makes me wonder whether I should ask to swap from Intro to PN - I did do the PN a couple of years ago with my last horse, but thought it might have changed since then. The horse is an experienced Novice eventer - any opinions anyone?

Is it your first event on a new horsE? If so, make it easy for yourself, stick with Intro. If you've done a few intros on him, then Cheltenham is the perfect upgrade event IMO. Would have done it as our first Novice without a second thought, buut cannot get time off.

We have done one unaff ODE at Sapey which was meant to be an Intro equivalent - he flew round the XC like a total machine, a lovely clear round

Mmm, on second thoughts perhaps I will wimp out and stay at Intro - we are in OPN at Berrington and Sapey

Sounds sensible. The PN at Sapey is also v easy and nice, don't know Berrington so can't comment, but I thought Sapey was v straightforward too, you'll have fun!

Yes, can't wait - we were meant to fit in a couple of other unaff ODEs before Cheltenham but they got rained off

I have been to Berrington a couple of times and seem to remember the course is OK - fingers crossed that not much has changed!

coud someone tell me if the dressage arenas are in the same field as the warm up?

if not i'm stuffed!!!

i'm in the intro

but i have a feeling it's going to be a shock to my pony since he's just done the PN at upton house - he'll think that i've totally downgraded him!

Sort of - last year you went through a gateway into one field to warm up then the arenas were behind a sheep wire fence. My horse was about the last to go all day and all the other horses disappeared back into the lorry park just as he started, meaning he was totally distracted and horrible all the way through, but it was very educational for him!
