Chemical castration

Looking for some info about chemical castration.
What does it involve?
Are the drugs they use competition legal?
How long does it last / how often does it need to be repeated?
What are the side effects, short term and long term?
What else should be taken into consideration?

from this link, looks like it is an off label use drug, not competition legal either but to be fair it was a quick check on google but to my knowledge chemical castration in horses isn't really done but i do stand to be corrected

Tardak used on my horse who had blood tested negative for a rig but I was desperate as his riggy behavior was dangerous! Lasts 6 months and is not licensed in horses so I doubt its competition legal Its just one injected, I had no side effects at any time
