Finally I have the keys to my new cottage and will be moving myself and my small menagerie up north next week.

Some of you have been kind enough to help out with suggestions for livery, hacking etc, now I need some ideas for where to kit myself out. I've decided not to lug all my cr*p up so am looking for a decent saddlery and country type store to start afresh.

I'll be moving to the Chester area and I think there's a saddlery on the way into town but also need somewhere to kit out the stable/feedroom etc (wheelbarrow, buckets, shovels etc).

All suggestions gratefully received and looking forward to meeting some Cestrians soon :)

I'm Cheshire too but in Macclesfield so can't really help you with a tack shop near Chester. If you want loads of yard fittings and stuff like that it might be worth going up the M6 to Robinsons at Haydock.

Hi and welcome to the North West.
I live on the Wirral so not too far from Chester. As Flame mentioned Robinsons in Haydock is really not too far away due to the good motorway links from the M53/M56. Also not too far away and probably closer to you is a Charlies store. Although not a huge equestrian deparment, it does have a variety of stable goods from buckets to brooms, feeds, grooming equip etc.
Also a little further away on the Wirral is Larton feed store and The Saddlers Apprentice which has a better variety of horse goodies that the Chester saddlery. Hope you find what you need. :)

Hello! And welcome to this neck of the woods! I am just over the Cheshire/Wales border and Wrexham Country Stores is only about 15 mins from Chester - it has all you'd need to kit out a new yard/feed room etc.

A little further afield towards Oswestry there's a Farm and Pet Place and towards Malpas there's loads of feed merchants and a beautiful tack store called Edgemere which is opposite the vets there.

Good luck with the move!

You could try Gibsons in Kingsley (very pretty countryside) or there is Chester Saddlery (in Chester somewhere),

I have driven past Gibsons many times but have never been in. Apparantly there is also Chester Saddlery (you will have to Google that one sorry) - OH told me about it as his family are from round those parts, so if it's no longer there then it his fault! :p

Enjoy your horsey shopping. :D

Gibsons is good if a little expensive , for feed your best bet is charlies store as was mentioned but I do most of my shopping on line - welcome I'm in Stretton , there are some fantastic farm rides around and a good directory site for farriers saddlers dentist .etc is the cheshirehorse .co.uk x

OOh welcome! Im just over the border in merseyside, it really depends on where in cheshire you are going to be based, but if you head to Robinsons at Haydock - i suggest we could do a HHO meet up there- there is a cafe after all!:D Im sure you'll love life up here, there are lots of fab country. forest for hacking and the beaches are all pretty close too!

useful websites ditto www.cheshirehorse.co.uk

Wow, thank you all for your replies! What a lovely welcome, thank you :). Some great suggestions - I love a good country store ;)

We've got a Robinsons down here - I didn't realise there was one that close to Chester. An HHO coffee's a great idea!

Thanks again for all your help!
