A friend of mine is asking me for advice on buying a pony for his daughter. She is 9 years old and is pony mad with all the books, but has no practical experience.

I suggested he start off with lessons at a riding school.

I am not local to Chester so would like to ask advice on a reputable place to send her?

Depends which side of Chester but Willington Hall, Foxes and Wirral Riding Centre are all good

No I think that covers both sides of the town centre!

Her father commutes from Chester to Blackpool every day for work so I doubt a few miles here and there will be an issue

Poor man - he started the conversation by sadly asking me how much having a horse costs......

He seems rather resigned to the fate of paying for one eventually
